about

HOW BEST TO LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM: Listen to this album on inexpensive gear. Nobody likes an audiophile. This album is in warm, comforting monophonic sound. You can listen to this album on the bus with your best friend and you can have an earbud and enjoy the same music. It is not like "Eleanor Rigby" where you have to decide who gets to hear Paul and who gets an earful of strings. You will want the songlist near you when you listen to this album the first few times, because some of the songs—we're thinking of "Vengeance Is Oblique", mostly—don't make as much sense if you don't know the title. A sturdy dictionary is a good investment—unless you already know what "Casuistry" means? Well, you might. You will want a diversion to keep your fingers busy while you mind soaks in the music. Perhaps a jigsaw puzzle, or some socks that need darning. Keep snacks handy, but nothing too crunchy. You will want to listen to this album while alone, desperately alone, except for those times when you want to play certain tracks for certain friends to make them feel bad about everything they've done to you (or haven't done, as the case may be.) If you own this album, you probably own many albums—so make each listen count!

about

The Minor Thirds Portland, Oregon

The Minor Thirds are sweet and sour sauce. They are agitated and relaxed, confident and insecure, weary and excited to see you. Their smile shines, like a knife. They are ambitious homebodies. They invite you in for tea and ask you personal questions that nearly make you cry. Should you laugh at their jokes? Was that even a joke? Nearly. ... more
